From the moment of initial contact, SEC focuses on the customer’s particulars and the relevance of individual performance specs versus cost trade off. SEC engineers will initially encourage the modification of one of the many already existing product designs in order to achieve adaptation to a customer’s application. For small and medium sized runs it is the most effective approach.
When large production runs are planned and embarkation on a very specific design strategy would result in significant production cost savings, custom or new product development becomes worthwhile. In such cases the sequence shown in Figure #1 is followed until preproduction runs are complete.
